The basic purpose of the course is to present the structure and operation of today's computers by considering the properties of the computer that are visible and important for a computer programmer. The student should gain basic knowledge of the structure and operation of individual parts of the computer system and their interconnections.

The course contains the final exam, three uniformly spread intermediate practical tests and a homework assignment towards the end of the semester.
